Frequently Asked Questions

If you have additional questions, feel free to reach out to us for more information.

What is Aquamation, and how does it differ from traditional fire cremation?

Aquamation, or water cremation, is a gentle, eco-friendly alternative to fire-based cremation. It uses a solution of 95% water and 5% alkaline minerals to mimic the natural decomposition process, but at an accelerated rate. Unlike fire cremation, which releases significant greenhouse gases—one cycle is equivalent to driving a minivan 600 miles—Aquamation has zero emissions and uses 90% less energy. Operationally for your clinic, the process is identical to what you are used to, but with a much smaller environmental footprint.

What is the typical turnaround time for returning remains?

We operate with high efficiency to ensure a respectful and timely return. Our standard turnaround time is 10 to 14 calendar days. This is comparable to, and often faster than, many traditional fire cremation services, ensuring that families receive their pet's remains and memorial items without unnecessary delay.

How do we submit a pet to Honor Pet?

We offer two streamlined methods to fit your workflow. You can use our custom-built online dashboard to manually enter pet and client data, or you can utilize our "Smart Form" integration. For practices using systems like EasyVet, Cornerstone, or Impromed, you can simply forward the patient file directly to us via email. This reduces administrative data entry from several minutes to about 60 seconds.

What is included in the "Honor Box" base individual package?

Our standard individual package is designed to provide a complete, compassionate memorial experience. It includes the pet's remains in a sturdy scatter tube, a fur clipping in a glass vial, a digital nose print, beeswax candles, forget-me-not seeds, and an Aquamation certificate. Additionally, we plant a tree in honor of every pet (both individual and communal) through our reforestation partners.

How do clients receive their pet's remains?

To reduce the administrative burden on your staff, we coordinate directly with the pet owners. They can choose from four options: (1) Free Pickup: At our 10,000 sq. ft. Comfort Center in downtown Los Angeles. (2) Hospital Return: We can return the remains to your clinic for client pickup (this option can be disabled if your clinic has limited storage space). (3) USPS Shipping: Certified mail directly to their home for an additional fee. (4) Hand Delivery: Personal delivery to their home for an additional fee.

Does Honor Pet provide storage solutions like freezers or bags?

Yes. We provide complimentary, high-quality canvas "Honor Bags" for the respectful storage and transport of deceased pets. These are a more professional and sustainable alternative to plastic bags. Additionally, for partner practices that require it, we can provide a complimentary freezer (available in small, medium, or large) to assist with on-site storage.

How can we track the status of a pet in your care?

Our partner dashboard provides real-time updates so you always know where a pet is in the process. Statuses are categorized into three stages: Awaiting Pickup (pet is still at your clinic), In Process (pet has been scanned by our driver and is at our facility), and Completed (remains have been returned or delivered).

Do you handle exotic animals?

Yes, we frequently work with practices that specialize in exotic animals. Our Aquamation process is suitable for a wide variety of species, and our flat-rate pricing still applies, making it a simple solution for your exotic pet clients.

Are there any additional benefits for our clinic staff?

We value our veterinary partners and offer several professional courtesies, including free individual Aquamation services for the personal pets of your clinic staff. We also provide free communal "Good Samaritan" services for unowned pets and can handle the disposal of sharps and organic waste (limbs/organs) at no additional charge.
