Why Honor Pet

Care That Honors Every Bond

Every species experiences the world differently, so every goodbye should be shaped around them.

Our veterinarians are trained and experienced in exotic animal medicine. They adapt the environment, handling, sedation, and pace of the appointment to your pet’s species, size, health, and temperament. Care like this can be hard to find as many in-home euthanasia providers focus mainly on dogs and cats. Our care extends further to include all species of pets.

The appointment

What to Expect

1

Before the Appointment

Our care team will ask about your pet’s species, health, temperament, and usual environment. This helps us recommend the setting and approach that will suit them best. You can also ask questions about the appointment, aftercare, timing, or anything else on your mind.

2

A Calm, Species-Appropriate Approach

Many exotic and small animals feel most comfortable with gentle handling, a quiet environment, and as little disruption as possible. Your veterinarian will explain the approach they recommend before beginning. Depending on your pet, that may include time inside a familiar enclosure, minimal restraint, a quieter room, or extra time to settle.

3

A Gentle Process

Your veterinarian will first give your pet a sedative to help them become calm and deeply relaxed. Once your pet is resting peacefully, a second medication allows them to pass. You are welcome to hold them, speak to them, or simply be present in whatever way feels right.

4

Time for Your Goodbye

There is no need to rush. You can spend time with your pet before and after they pass. Our veterinarian will move at a pace that feels comfortable for your pet and your family.

Aftercare and Memorial Options

After your goodbye, we can arrange water cremation, a gentle, flame-free process that preserves even the smallest bones. This can be especially meaningful for tiny companions such as hamsters and birds.

Around 20% more memorial remains returned than flame-based cremation, giving families more of their pet’s ashes back.

Individual and communal options are available. Families may also choose from thoughtfully selected memorial keepsakes. These options are available for exotic and small pets, just as they are for every pet entrusted to our care.

FAQ

Questions Families Often Ask

Do you provide euthanasia for exotic pets?

Yes. Our veterinarians are experienced in caring for exotic and small-animal species. Appointments are available at home and at our Los Angeles Comfort Center throughout Greater Los Angeles and Orange County.

My pet is a prey species and gets stressed easily. Can you still help?

Yes. In-home euthanasia is frequently the better option for nervous or easily stressed animals, since they stay in a familiar space. We’ll talk through your pet’s specific temperament and needs when you schedule.

What if my pet is very small, like a hamster or a mouse?

We care for very small companion animals. Our veterinarian will adapt the handling, sedation, and process to your pet’s size and species.

Do you provide euthanasia for birds and reptiles?

Yes. Birds and reptiles have different physiologies from mammals, and our veterinarians account for those differences when planning sedation, handling, and the euthanasia process.

Can I still get water cremation for my exotic pet?

Yes. Water cremation is available for exotic and small pets, with the same individual or communal options and memorial keepsakes we offer for any pet in our care.

Whatever kind of companion you share your life with, they deserve an unhurried, dignified goodbye.

We’re here for that, at home or at our Comfort Center, seven days a week.
