Pre-Planning & Quality of Life Consults

You don't have to figure this out alone

If you're watching your pet slow down and wondering what comes next, a quality of life consultation gives you space to ask questions and explore your options with a licensed veterinarian who has guided hundreds of families through this.

One-hour consults with a licensed veterinarian. [Virtual and in-person options available.]

Families with aging pets often have the same question

"How will I know when it's time?"

The question deserves a better answer than just a guess.

A quality of life consultation is an unhurried, one-on-one conversation with a veterinarian who specializes in end-of-life care. Together, you'll talk through your concerns, your pet's condition, and what options are available to you. You'll leave with a clearer picture of your pet's comfort and quality of life, and an intentional plan.

You'll never be asked to make a decision on the spot. Our goal is to equip you with information and options, so when you need to make a decision, you feel ready.

Pet families often choose pre-planning when...

Their pet is getting older and they want to understand what to watch for.

A diagnosis has raised new questions about their pet's comfort and care.

They want a plan in place so they're prepared if an emergency happens.

They're unsure about timing and want guidance from someone who's been through this before.
They want to explore their options at their own pace, with no pressure.

Questions families often ask

How do I know when it's time?

There's no single answer, but there are signs to look for and conversations that can help. Our pre-planning consults offer the time and space needed to discuss your pet’s quality of life, explore options, and make informed end-of-life decisions.

What is a pet quality of life consultation?

It's a one-hour appointment with a licensed veterinarian who specializes in end-of-life care. Together, you'll talk through your pet's condition, what you're observing at home, and what options are available. You'll leave with a clearer understanding of your pet's comfort and an intentional plan.

What happens during the pre-planning appointment?

We start by listening. Our veterinarian will ask about your pet's daily routine, appetite, mobility, and mood. From there, we'll discuss quality of life indicators, comfort care options, and what-if scenarios so you have a plan in place. We'll also talk through your goals and wishes for your pet's care, including what you'd want if an emergency happens.

Can I schedule a consultation before my pet is actively declining?

Yes. In fact, that's often the best time to start. When you plan ahead, you make decisions at your own pace instead of under pressure. You'll already have a relationship with a care team and a plan that reflects what matters to you and your pet.

How much does a quality of life consultation cost?

Consultations are $170 for one full hour with a licensed veterinarian. [Virtual and in-person options are available. Placeholder until confirmed.]

Do I need a referral from my regular vet?

No referral is needed. You can schedule directly on this page or reach out to our care team at (323) 515-1234.

What if I'm not ready to talk about euthanasia?

That's completely OK. Many families come to us well before that conversation is on the table. A quality of life consultation can focus entirely on your pet's comfort, what changes to watch for, and how to support them right now. There's no agenda and no pressure toward any particular decision.

Do you offer mobile euthanasia?

Yes. Our in-home euthanasia service is a mobile euthanasia option where our veterinarian travels to you. Your pet stays in their favorite spot, and our team handles everything from there, including water cremation.

What if my family disagrees about what to do?

This is more common than most people realize. A consult can help by giving everyone the same information at the same time, from someone outside the family. Many families find that hearing a veterinarian walk through the full picture helps align the conversation.

What if I don't believe in euthanasia?

We respect every family's values. A consultation can focus on comfort care, pain management, and natural death planning. Our veterinarian will work within your wishes, and we can connect you with additional support if that would be helpful.

Is there a way to measure my pet's quality of life?

Yes. There are quality of life tools that track things like appetite, mobility, pain, and engagement day to day. During a consultation, our veterinarian can walk you through these and help you choose an approach that fits, whether that's a simple "good day vs. bad day" check-in or a more detailed assessment.
